FAQ With Peter & Kari

  • What does Verdant mean?

Lush, flourishing, alive. Our mission is to see people fully alive and flourishing. Boise is the City of Trees, and the imagery of Psalm 1 shapes the culture of this house and is woven into everything we do.

  • How can I help?

    PRAY! GIVE! JOIN!

We are praying for volunteers with skills in marketing, administration, organization, bookkeeping, kids ministry, first impressions, worship team, AVL, and manual labor.

  • Why now?

We knew 12 years ago that we were called to SE Boise, and we have faithfully prayer walked and talked with our leaders for the right timing. Pastor Mark and DD asked us to consider launching four years ago, before their transition, but the time wasn’t right for our family. Then, with all the Bryan family, we agreed it would be best that Pastor Jonny and Laura should start the transition and we would commit to staying through it and for a full year after.

  • Why Southeast Boise?

Early in our marriage, we sensed the Lord calling us to plant a life-giving church in East Boise, so we began praying and preparing our hearts. Over the following months and years, we drove and prayed throughout the east side of the city. During that time, we sensed a clear distinction and confirmation in our spirits, eventually identifying a specific perimeter on the map. Shortly afterward, we discovered that the exact area we had felt in our spirits matched the designated zone known as Southeast Boise.

  • Campus or church plant?

Verdant City Church is not a satellite campus but a church plant. We will be a sister-church with Harvest! We look forward to a long and healthy relationship.

  • Timeline?

    o March-May: training a launch team

o June-August: soft launch (evangelism and strategic outreach)

    o Fall: LAUNCH/Grand Opening

  • What would success look like in 3-5 years?

Our dream is to have a community of believers who know how to linger in worship, apply Scripture to their everyday lives, and build small groups throughout the area. We’d love for our church to have a coffee shop and be a place for the community to gather throughout the week. For ministries, we hope to have a choir, a thriving kids ministry, a strategic junior high, an equipping youth and young adult ministry, a refugee ministry, and a thriving marketplace ministry, to mention a few!

  • What demographic are you most hoping to reach?

We hope to reach young professionals, as both BSU and the expanding Micron plant are in this region. We also want to build a culture that reaches kids, families, youth, and older generations well. Additionally, we hope to reach the international and refugee community in the area.

  • Financial Plan

With a large vision to reach the east side, costs can add up quickly. We ask you prayerfully consider giving monthly for our first 12 months. Of course, any one-time gift would be greatly valued! After years of preparation, we are trusting God to provide for the launch of our East Boise church plant. We are excited to witness His provision as we bring this vision to life. Peter will serve in a bi-vocational capacity initially, with the goal of transitioning to full-time ministry within 6-12 months.

Plant, Water & Nurture

Not everyone is called to the same level of commitment—and that’s good. Here are ways to be part of what God is doing through this church plant.

We ask that you read all carefully, pray honestly, and choose the path that best reflects God’s leading in your life.
